Targeting a multibillion-dollar market for its first indication - Dry Eye

Today, there is no cure for the dry eye disease (DED), only symptomatic short-term relief provided by topical lubricants.  DS-101 is the first drug that tackles both the inflammatory and the neural aspects of the disease. Over 45 million people in the United States and over 1.3 billion worldwide have been diagnosed with DED.

Proven scalability – DS-101 is already an industrially manufactured drug with a proven industrial scale GMP 5-step synthesis.

Expanding to additional ophthalmic indications - Ocular Pain

Ocular pain is considered one of the most common medical conditions – regardless of the etiology of the pain. DS-101 offers immediate, long-lasting symptomatic relief. It can be added on top of other treatments, which may include intra-ophthalmic pressure-lowering drugs, antibacterial medications, antiviral medications and steroids. Over time, all of these existing treatments tend to cause local corneal hypersensitivity to topical administration, which DS-101 appears not to do.

Branching towards extra ophthalmic indications

The global local anesthetics market in 2017 was $6.02B and is expected to grow 3.9% CAGR by 2023. Additional potential applications may include Dermatological (pruritus, post-herpetic pain, burns), Musculoskeletal (particularly muscle and joint), and Dental pain. Existing local anesthetics have significant limitations in these indications due to either tissue toxicity or reduced efficacy due to pH-sensitivity, both of which appear to not be limitations for DS-101.
